In Orbit The debut release from BUTTONMOON, takes you on a post-industrial psychedelic odyssey. It soundscapes the core of our inner being , the outer reaches of the universe and beyond. Musicianship is enhanced, never compromised, by the ambient sound effects. Flute and saxophone twist and turn around each other to produce beautiful pieces evoking emotions ranging from pathos to downright terror. This honest and compelling offering encapsulates Button Moon’s varied experiences of self-discovery and lays it bare for all to hear. At times this can be disturbing, as crises sometimes are, but we are soothed, comforted and revitalised in the end. Esoteric chanting and wailing, screaming, confused chattering are underpinned by Eastern rhythms and searing, melting guitars. It takes you to the Arabian desert, to a cold dank cell, to a nostalgic reverie, to a dewy dawn or your darkest nightmare. It unveils, deconstructs, reconstructs and transports you. Go into the fire, there is nothing to fear – Button Moon will be with you! ![]()

BUTTONMOON Background
Button Moon were formed in Cambridge UK late 2008 by acidironkid and cjmann. The plan was to combine screams and synth drones into a 20 minute piece which was to be performed as an opening for the Fantastic World of Wrong Planet debut in February 2009. During preparations they were joined by the schmergmeister whose work with guitar based loops and drones complimented the piece and brought together their combined interests in the weird shit. The recording of In Orbit was started in early 2009 at which time they were joined by b# whose flute, chants and screams helped to further expanded the sound. In Orbit takes the collective improvisations recorded over numerous sessions and through extensive editing turns them into 6 distinct pieces, each with their own unique identity.
Live Performance
Following on from the debut performance BUTTONMOON have performed in a variety of venues ranging from art exhibition openings to rock gigs. Over the last 12 months they have expanded the original piece so that when they play live it is now a 45 minute structured improvisation that ranges from quiet ambience to full-on aural assault utilising guitars, synths, bass, drums, flute, sax, screams and chants. |
